A Day when Urban Forest Dwellers Unite

Have you ever watched arborists at work?

Whenever I am setting up a tree care project for one of my fellow Richmonders, I encourage them to stay home and watch if they can. So much training and passion goes into delivering our service to your house that I think the full appreciation for it is something you should see while it is happening, not just when its finished.

David Tate Doing What he Loves Best

But don’t worry! This isn’t a sales pitch. We have a great way for you to watch passionate professionals without paying for service. On March 21st Truetimber and many of our fellow professional Arborists in Richmond will descend on the Barker Field area near the Carillon for a special day of service that has been happening for many years now. As you can imagine, the Urban Forestry Department in the City of Richmond has a daunting workload, but on the Dave Tate Day of Service we do our best to take some of their workload off the list. Its a different hot spot each year, and this year the hotspot is Barker Field. We hope you will join us there from 8am- 1pmish on Mar 21st to either watch or participate. Even if you don’t know how to climb or prune a tree, you can help us gather trash or help with other ground-based chores as we offer some tender loving care to the Richmond backyard we all love.

“Who is Dave Tate?” I suppose many of you might ask. David Tate was my brother-in-law, my best friend, and an indispensable partner in growing Truetimber through its early years. David lost his battle with depression in his thirties, but he lived long enough to impress the Richmond arboricultural community with his drive, skill, and passion for the work.

Dave and Scott’s Daughter, Anna

When he wasn’t in a tree, Dave lived a shy and quiet life, and the last thing in the world he would ever do is draw attention to himself. And so I chuckle a bit each year, thinking about the lost look on his face(I can actually see it like it is right in front of me) when the poster and announcement comes out and Scott writes another blog about the “DAVE TATE DAY OF SERVICE.”

Hehe. Sorry Dave. Just remember its for the trees.
