The Daily Grind – Truetimber Style

Stumps are “removed” by grinding the stump into a pile of dirt and wood chips, usually to a depth of 6-8 inches under the existing land grade. Stump pricing varies with stump size, number of stumps and ease of access to stump.

The dirt/woodchip combination can be used as fill dirt or weed control in wooded or natural areas, and most of our clients find a use for it somewhere on their property. Stump grindings are not usually recommended for use around pH sensitive plants.  If there is no suitable use for them on your property, we recommend using a landscape or lawn company to haul away the excess debris.

When you need reliable stump grinding services in Virginia, trust the dedicated professionals at Truetimber Arborists. We understand that stumps can pose tripping hazards, restrict usable space, and create issues for lawn maintenance. By investing in our expert stump grinding services, you’ll not only eliminate these problems but also create a safer, more polished landscape.

What Is Stump Grinding and Why Does It Matter?

Stump grinding is a cost-effective, minimally invasive method for removing tree stumps. Instead of uprooting the entire stump and root system, we grind it into wood chips and soil—usually about 4-6 inches below the existing ground level. This approach saves you from the extensive digging, heavy machinery, and potential lawn damage associated with full stump removal.

Our Process at Truetimber Arborists

Before we begin, we’ll conduct an assessment to determine the size, location, and accessibility of your stump or stumps. Pricing varies based on factors such as diameter, the number of stumps, and any obstacles in the work area, like fencing or narrow pathways. Once we finalize the plan, our specialized stump grinders efficiently break down the wood, leaving behind a blend of dirt and wood chips that can be hauled away or recycled into your landscape.

We take care to minimize impact on the surrounding landscape so you can quickly return to enjoying your yard in a clean, safe environment.

A Practical Use for Stump Grindings

One of the biggest benefits of professional stump grinding is the natural by-product it creates. Rather than disposing of the dirt-woodchip mixture, many of our clients use these grindings for weed control in wooded or natural areas, or as fill material to level uneven spots in the yard. While it is not advised to plant new trees directly in stump mulch, stump mulch can be used in landscape beds or mulch rings around trees.
